FAQs about avocado fertilization
Why is avocado so sensitive to chlorides?
+
Avocado has one of the highest chloride sensitivities among fruit trees. Its root system is very susceptible to salt toxicity, which manifests as marginal leaf necrosis, premature defoliation and reduced fruit set. This is why it is essential to use 100% chloride-free fertilizers in avocado. All Ecoganic products are chloride-free by design, making them ideal for this crop.
Why are freshwater microalgae ideal for avocado fertilization?
+
Freshwater microalgae (Chlorella, Scenedesmus) used by Ecoganic as the base of its biostimulants provide amino acids, cytokinins and phytohormones that improve resistance to water and salt stress in avocado. Being freshwater, they do not contribute marine salts that could worsen chloride toxicity. They also improve mycorrhizal colonization of the root system, increasing phosphorus and potassium absorption.
How can fruit drop in avocado be prevented?
+
Avocado has three waves of physiological drop: post-flowering, post-set (BBCH 71-74) and mid-season. To minimize them: 1) At flowering, apply UNIVERSAL POWER and BOOST UNIVERSAL to improve fruit set. 2) At BBCH 71-74, apply CALCIUM 40 to reinforce pedicel abscission zone. 3) Maintain a constant boron supply (via foliar) throughout the cycle to support pedicel cell wall integrity.
