It is a crop that demands potassium, nitrogen, and calcium, and also requires a structured soil, good aeration, and protection against root and aerial diseases. <\/p>\n\n<p>In an international context where the consumption of <strong>residue-free and certified<\/strong> fruits is growing, watermelon produced under <strong>organic and ecological<\/strong> management represents a great opportunity for exporters and local producers. The use of certified products such as those from <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ecoganic.eu\/en\/\">Ecoganic<\/a> allows achieving high yields, better fruit quality, and complying with the requirements of programs such as <strong>EU Regulation 848\/2018<\/strong>, <strong>USDA Organic<\/strong>, and other international regulations. <\/p>\n\n<p>In addition, to ensure a profitable and sustainable crop, it is key to follow good management practices such as those recommended by the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/y1669s\/y1669s00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAO for the ecological production of cucurbits<\/a>, focused on biodiversity, balanced nutrition, and natural pest control.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is also recommended to apply principles of <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/latinamerica.fibl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sustainable watermelon cultivation<\/a> proposed by FiBL Latin America, which include rotations, living
